Betancuria, the historic heart of the island
Founded in 1404, Betancuria is the oldest town in Fuerteventura and one of the most historically important. Located in a valley surrounded by mountains, this town was the first capital of the island and retains a special charm thanks to its cobbled streets and white houses.
Among the main attractions of Betancuria are the Church of Santa Maria, a beautiful example of Gothic architecture, and the Archaeological Museum, where you can see remains of the aboriginal culture of Fuerteventura. Walking through Betancuria is like going back in time, and it is a perfect place to learn about the history and tradition of Fuerteventura.
